Shaggy gets Candid about Dancehall

Shaggy, who is in NYC, gave an interview to The Voice where he touches on why afrobeats and dancehall hasn’t blown up bigger on the world stage.

He says, “Local dancehall artists can make a really good living without ever going to radio, without ever going mainstream because of the internet. They have to just take their phones and press a button and say, ‘that’s promotion’. If you look at a lot of dancehall artists, they have more followers then they have streaming numbers. And that’s because they’ve become somewhat of a sideshow cause people tune in and follow them, not to stream or buy their music, but to be entertained with whatever buffoonery they’re doing.”
